Meet Hershey Bear!

In mid February 2010, my lovely husband came home with a new puppy. We had been talking about this and he had been actively looking at puppies on the various pet sites. The way he was talking, I thought he’d be bringing home a little lap dog. Imagine my surprise when this moose showed up!

Hershey @ 3.5 Months!

When you first look at her, it’s hard to determine her breeding. I’ve had people tell me that she looks like a Pit Bull, a Boxer, a Great Dane, and a Labrador Retriever. I’m hoping the vet can give me a better idea when I take her in for her next scheduled puppy shot.  Her name is actually Hershey, but I like to call her Hershey Bear.  She is very lovable and full of energy. She is also doing the typical puppy things and I’m trying to break her from mouthing and counter surfing right now. Our two boys really love her and she seems to have all the makings of being a great family pet. You’ll see periodic posts on her as our puppy-rearing adventure continues. Stay tuned for the latest!

April 2012 Update:

Okay…so much for the periodic updates.  I guess life just gets in the way sometimes.  I’ve gone from usually calling her Hershey Bear to mostly calling her Beast.  She’s turned into a 2 year old, 70 pound lap dog that likes to eat stuffed animals, steal food, and dig holes in the backyard.  And even with all of that nonsense going on, I’ve decided she’s the best dog I’ve ever had.  She’s lovable, she’s loyal, she’s great with the boys, and she’s always happy to see me when I walk in the door.  She’s the only dog I’ve ever let sleep in my bed, so that’s saying quite a bit right there.  My only real complaint at this point is the drool.  The damn dog stands right there, with drool coming out of her mouth, watching us eat.  She should know by now that she’s not getting any of my food, but Hubby is a soft touch and she knows it.  And if she waits long enough, he’ll eventually toss her a morsel or two.  Sucker.

Did you ever find out what kind of mix Hershey Bear is? What did the vet have to say?

Joe took her to the vet, so do you think he asked? Of course not. Dang dog is over 50 pounds and with her paws on the counter, can stick her head in the sink. She’s all legs. I’ll post some new pics of her soon.
